I have always loved creating abstract artwork, especially colorful pieces. However, in this drawing, I combined both real life aspects as well as abstract characteristics with the goal of creating a very geometric still life. Although I have mostly used grey-scale in my drawings, my main medium in this piece was a large variety of colored pencils. When I designed my still life, I originally planned to include most of the structure in my finished drawing. However, when I reached my thumbnail step of the planning process I decided to switch directions and take a more zoomed in approach. By zooming in on the tin foil background, purple glass bottle, and orange ribbon I was able to create a very geometrical and dynamic composition. In this piece I really focused on the layering of the colored pencils as well as the reflective characteristic of the tinfoil and bottle. I made sure to pay close attention to the shapes created in the image as well as the many different colors reflected off of it. I wanted the drawing to have movement and chaos as well as structure to captivate the viewer.
