Using monochromatic color as diffuse light and a high contrast I create a personal dream state. Because of my passion for horses, I have chosen them as my subject to use metaphorically. Using color as an expressive tool rather than a realistic tool, I found that I can create situations to depict fear, freedom, curiosity, and energy.
When I paint horses, I think of what a horse is besides just a riding horse. They have many personalities, and I also explored that through color to get a better understanding of each with their own personalities, and experiences. Horses to me are about more than just riding them, they are also my personal therapy from the hardships of life.
Eileen Gallagher is an Art Major at Cedar Crest College with an Integrated Art concentration. Her integration of course provided her opportunities for the investigation of archetypes. She brings her research to the context in her paintings. Eileen will be earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cedar Crest College in May 2022.
Eileen lives on a farm and enjoys being surrounded by animals from dogs, cats, and birds, to horses! Her artwork reflects this; especially the passion she has for horses. When she is not designing and creating art, she is riding and showing her two appaloosas, Matlock and Ziggy.
