Emily Strong

Strong’s human-centric works invite discourse on physicality through painted, figurative abstractions. She creates raw, intimate spaces that explore the many complexities of physical relationships; with the self and with others.  Her work is a celebration of flesh, form, and humanity at its most open.

Body positivity and empowerment are central themes in her work. The compositions do not shy away from body types, ages, or gender expressions that do not fit the idealized form shown in mainstream media. Strong’s work portrays her subjects grandly, comfortable in their own nakedness, in control of their own bodies. In this way, she hopes to show that at their most vulnerable, people have more in common than they may have previously thought. There is no physical feature that should be cause for shame or for discrimination. Strong’s work visually demonstrates the beauty and necessity of diversity.
