The work I create draws inspiration from childhood memories. Through a collection of pictures, mementos, and trinkets. I can piece together memories in my work to share with others. Tangible reminders of my childhood captured the memory I want to capture the feeling. I explore this relationship with my memories through printmaking. The techniques used- monotyping, serigraphy, and relief printing- allow me to build up my images in a similar manner that I piece together my memories. The deliberate creation of a space where I share my memories is intended to create a sense of comfort for myself and others. In the creation of this space, I invite others to think about what fond memories they have and what brings them comfort.

Isabel Pichardo is a Senior at Cedar Crest College. Working as a printmaker, she uses monotypes and relief as her main techniques. She experiments with the matrix by using other materials other than linoleum. Also experimenting with her canvas, she is drawn to using textiles to expand her work.

Her work is mostly inspired by childhood memories, through anecdotal accounts, pictures, or any trinkets from her childhood. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, her work is also influenced by that fact-as she recalls the vivid colors found in the architecture, flora, and fauna of the island. This inspires the color palette she utilizes in her work. The combination of both childhood memories and growing up on the island allow her to create a reminder of her home and childhood and an avenue to share it.
