Geometric abstraction is the foundation of my work displayed through painting and ceramics. This style of art allows me the freedom to express my ideas by exploring patterns and visual relationships. The space between shapes used in my work is important as it allows color and value to stand out and movement to be established throughout the composition. Warm and cool colors connecting with one another create contrast and define edges. Paint allows me to show value change in my color palette and connect to the study of the color wheel. Monochromatic harmonies let me display movement throughout the various tints, tones, and shades. Analogous colors within each group let me explore each combination and how they bring a vibrant detail within my work. The malleability of clay allows me to explore texture and to form shapes into larger three-dimensional spontaneous ideas. The use of these materials enhances my work with the ability to show the connection with colors and how texture brings shapes to life.
