As a printmaker, my work investigates human struggles such as illness, trauma, identity, and death. Through my work, I seek to express the raw emotions tied into these struggles and represent them in a way that feels the most honest to me. I tell stories symbolically rather than straightforward as someone who was expected to hide or erase illnesses, emotions, and identity from the view of others.
Flowers and plants provide a wide range of symbolism throughout different cultures and personal interpretations. In my work, flowers or hair will distort or conceal the faces, representing the concept of having to mask or completely repress suffering. I want my art to mean the most to those struggling with the topics being covered, feeling seen is something that I craved and so I hope to be able to provide what I couldn’t have.
